A love of learning is at the heart of James Cousins Company.
We are passionate about nurturing talent and introducing people to dance because we believe in its power to create positive change.
Dance in schools is vital, with benefits that go far beyond movement—building confidence, trust, non-verbal communication, and leadership skills. We champion its place in education and believe every child should have access to it.
Our dedicated workshop programme for Within Her Eyes, featured on the GCSE Dance syllabus in England, explores contemporary contact work, but our work extends far beyond that—we have experience delivering projects for BTEC, A-Level and KS3 students.
With over 12 years of experience, we offer top-tier workshops, training sessions, intensives, choreographic creations, film projects, and career talks. Whatever your needs, we’re excited to collaborate and create a bespoke experience for you.

WORKSHOPS
Workshops based on Within Her Eyes are available to book to either introduce pupils to the film or to deepen their understanding and help them to revise the work.
All workshops will be delivered by experienced professional dancers or by James on request.
The workshop content has been designed by the company in collaboration with experienced GCSE dance teachers to make clear links to the GCSE specification and aims to:
-
Introduce the choreographic themes.
-
Allow pupils to ask questions about transferring a work from stage to film.
-
Discuss the production features and their link to the choreographic intention.
-
Demonstrate key moments from the work that make links to the dance idea.
-
Teach pupils a sequence from the work.
-
Develop pupils’ contact and choreographic skills to support both their understanding of the work and their own performance and choreographic work.
-
Inspire pupils with a unique opportunity to work with experienced professional dancers.
Full or half day workshops are available and are for a maximum of 26 participants (size of space dependent). We are happy to split the day across two groups, either both GCSE groups or one GCSE and one other workshop tailored to the needs of a group of your choice. It may be beneficial for schools with smaller cohorts to consider collaborating with other groups in the same area to make up a full workshop to enable more pupils to experience the insight into the work.

STANDARD OR PREMIUM?
For both half day and full day workshops we now offer two pricing options, this is to ensure our workshops are both affordable and meet the high standards we have become known for.

The main difference is with our standard workshop you will get one workshop leader whereas with the premium you will get two. As a result our standard workshops will have a more explorative and creative feel to them, whereas our premium workshops will offer the chance for students to learn modified repertory.

The new Standard Full Day workshop can be run for one group or conducted as two half day workshops for different groups. Prices start from £370.

WHY CHOOSE OUR WORKSHOPS?
The company has learning at its heart. We are thrilled to be included in the new GCSE Specification and are passionate about delivering workshops that will be both exciting, engaging and inspiring for students but also beneficial to their studies. That's why we have worked in collaboration with experienced GCSE teachers to ensure our workshops will challenge pupils physical skills whilst also giving them an indepth understanding of Within Her Eyes, linking specifically to the requirements for the examination.
Invaluable inspiration. Most companies will just send you one workshop leader, who often has never danced with the company or worked with the choreographer. We work differently. All our workshops will be delivered by professional dancers who have worked with James and have an in depth knowledge of the choreographic intention of the work, as well as experience of teaching pupils of this age and of a range of abilities.
Two in one. We are aware your resources are limited so we have carefully crafted our workshops to both physically and creatively challenge students, offering a unique opportunity to learn professional repetoire, whilst also making the theoretical aspects of the work more accessible to pupils. Through engaging discussions and tasks that link directly to the AQA specification, we'll enable students to answer the written paper more successfully.
Contact work and choreographic ideas, we have it covered. Our aim is that by the end of the session everyone feels confident in making contact and lifting any one else in the group. We introduce contact work in a fun yet safe way, providing students with skills and starting points that they can apply to their own choreographic work in unit 3.2.
We're here to meet your needs. We are keen to ensure the workshops delivered best suit your pupils needs so please contact us if you have specific requests or have any further questions on sarah@jamescousinscompany.com
